Childlike Politics on Global Voices
Please Vote For Me airs Sunday night on Global Voices on the WORLD Channel. Set in the city of Wuhan in central China, the film follows three 8-year-old elementary school students as they campaign for the coveted position of class monitor.
Viewers interested in the film should definitely take a look at this clip from This American Life. Host Ira Glass excerpts the doc and reflects on how quickly these third-grade kids devise and employ the same tactics used by adult politicians. Politics is indeed a contact sport, enjoy!

Stories of Immigration Now Available Online
Two ITVS films, both of which aired this season on Global Voices, are no available to own online. Paper Words by filmmaker Joyce Lee and Point of Entry by filmmaker Zeus Quijano each take an intimate look around immigration issues.
Paper Words is a 3-D animated short which tells the story of a bright 5-year-old from China who uses her imagination to cope with her new life in a small, Midwestern town.
In Point of Entry, we meet Carlos, an undocumented immigrant living in the U.S. with his wife and two children. At 15, Carlos came to America and left his life and family behind in Mexico. Now Carlos is 30 and continues to send money home to his family.
International Call Profile: Simon Chambers
As the new International Call deadline quickly approaches (December 10, 2010!), BTB is highlighting past recipients. This week, we turn to filmmaker Simon Chambers and his film Cowboys in India which will air on Global Voices next year. The film follows one tribe’s fight to rescue a sacred mountain from a multinational mining company. For those interested in applying for International call, take a look at the application and join the Facebook group to keep up with developments.
Beyond the Box: How did you get involved with this film?
Simon Chambers: I’ve been going to India for a long time and had a great curiosity about the country and I just wanted to spend more time there. India is one of those places I had an immediate affinity for.
There were a bunch of tribal people in a remote part of India and they were fighting with bows and arrows to stop a British mining company from chopping the top off their sacred mountain. An anthropologist who knew the area well asked if I would accompany him. He said he had been getting various threats from the company.
So I originally thought I would go there and make a film with him and use him as a main character. While on the trip, I met the two main characters of my film, Satya and Daya. They were my driver and my guide.
